Side event to Open Days 2011:
Regional Innovation through the Future Internet Public Private Partnership
In order to be better positioned in the global competition, Europe needs immediate and strong measures to boost its economic growth through productivity and innovation for job creation in the coming years. It is widely recognized that the autonomous activities of single organizations cannot produce those radical, cross-disciplinary and architectural innovations that sufficiently address the need for public sector transformation in Europe.
Particularly since the formulation and implementation of the Lisbon strategy, the use of advanced technologies and the promotion of innovation has become a cornerstone of European policy making. Next to an obvious R&D focus, EU innovation policy also incorporates a deployment and piloting perspective. This is embodied in the FI PPP Programme design and implementation.
However, FI PPP cannot solve these problems alone. Thus we are active seeking for collaborators from wider cross-sectoral and thematic communities. We acknowledge that these challenges can only be solved with new types of cross-sectoral collaboration acknowledging that these challenges:
- they occur (differently) on different levels of scale
- a variety of actors with different perspectives are
involved - they are highly uncertain in terms of future
developments - they can only be dealt with on the long term
- they are hard to ‘manage’ in a traditional sense
- they are rooted in different societal domains
In this workshop we invite the European regional stakeholders to an active dialogue with us for tackling these grant challenges.
When: 13 October 2011 11:15-13:00
Where: Committee of the Regions, Room JDE 52, Rue Belliard 101, B-1040 Brussels
