DG Information Society and Media of the European Commission announces a new initiative, exploring the concept of collective awareness and action, based on the integration of online social systems, distributed knowledge creation and networks of sensors.
The vision is that individuals can “save the planet” if they are given the opportunity to act socially, based on trusted information from cooperative platforms. This first broad dialogue between researchers, citizens, civil society organisations (e.g. in sustainable environment, consumers, democracy), social media, active projects and institutions will take place on Friday 9 September 2011, in Brussels.
Please check http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/activities/collectiveawareness where you can openly submit your ideas and register for the conference, which is part of the high-level event “Internet and Societies: New Innovation Paths” organised by the PARADISO 2 project. Your participation is very important to make your voice heard in an event which could lead to the definition of a new area for EU-funded techno-social research in the ICT workprogramme.
